Aspiring Assemblyman Dies After Being Disqualified

A 75-year-old man contesting in yesterday's District Assembly Elections at the Adra Electoral Area in Takoradi, in the Western Region, has lost his life after being disqualified by the Electoral Commission.

The man, known as Edward Yorke, was disqualified based on the new Constitutional Instrument (CI 89), which regulates the conduct of the election.

The CI 89 which was introduced recently prohibits candidates who are 70years and above from contesting in the assembly election.

Edward Yorke, determined to retain his seat, spent his ex-gratia of Ghs2,500 on posters, T-shirts and other materials to facilitate his campaign only to be disqualified later.

The late Mr. Yorke was said to have died out of shock.
