Kwame Nkrumah refused a yacht from ADC

It was reported in a newspaper on February 26, 1958 that Prime Minister Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah refused a yacht from Agricultural Development Cooperation (ADC).

Here's a statement issued from the late Prime Minister's office, " The prime minister has informed the cooperation that whilst he appreciates the good wishes which has led to this proposal, he does not consider it appropriate for the cooperation to make a gift of this kind."

Dr. Nkrumah hoped therefore that the cooperation would be able to modify the boat to suit the general program for fishing vessels in Ghana. It was announced at a press conference by the chairman of the cooperation, Mr. J. K. A. Quarshie on February 21 that the cooperation proposed to present the prime minister with a £4,000 "outward bond school" yacht at the opening of the national agricultural show in Accra on March 4.

Mr Quarshie told the conference that the yacht will enable the minister to cruise on the Volta lake and provide accommodation for 15 people.
