Mandarin language introduced in at least 44 schools across South Africa according to the country’s Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga.
Hundred teachers will be trained the language this year, in a three week training program sponsored by the Institute of Global Chinese Language Teacher Education. The Chinese government will send Chinese teachers to South Africa and donate 2, 000 textbooks to assist in teaching Mandarin in schools until a South African textbook is developed.
It is expected that at least 500 schools in South Africa will offer Mandarin as a second additional language reports Xinhua.
