GHANA: Power crisis to get worse

The ongoing frequent power outages in the country is expected to worsen again due to technical faults with some power plants across the country.

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) demanded that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) sheds about 600 megawatts(MW) of power from Thursday,


GRIDCo's off-peak load-relief request affected 210MW of power to Greater Accra; 120MW to Ashanti; 120MW to Tema; 60MW to Western; 40MW each to Central and Eastern, and 20MW to the Volta Region.

Ghana has been battling with consistent power outages since 2012. Meanwhile, two emergency power barges from Turkey are expected to arrive by November this year to mitigate the crisis.
