Baker Hughes, an American oil and gas services company operating in many African countries including Ghana, has left one of its employees to his fate after he suffered an accident whilst performing official duties.
The incapacitated Andrew Boateng is an engineer with Baker Hughes Ghana but was doing rotational work in Congo and Gabon.
He was reported to have been involved in a terrible accident in Gabon, in the company's vehicle on April 2014 and was subsequently airlifted to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa, whilst in coma.
Andrew was said to have been moved to a nursing home after regaining consciousness and finally to another nursing home for the aged, where he is currently. He cannot eat, walk nor talk, and lacks physiotherapy and good nutrition at his recent institution. A Human Rights activist lamented that the Baker Hughes worker hasn't received visits from friends, family and the company in over a year.
Baker Hughes provides services for oil and gas producers in over 80 countries and has been operating in Ghana since 2009.
