13-year-old pupil hangs himself

A 13-year-old boy of the Bethel Preparatory School at Somanya in the Eastern Region has reportedly committed suicide by hanging.

According to Citi News, he was found hanging on a staircase in the school with the belt of his school bag around his neck on Sunday evening.

The pupil who was the school's bell boy was no where to be found when it was time for dining and the bell had to be rung. He was found hanging on the school's staircase moments after they launched a search for him.

An eyewitness disclosed after investigations that the deceased was seen hanging a rope around the neck of a live bird he had caught earlier that day.

He is said to have maltreated the bird until it died and few hours later, he was found hanging on the staircase.

The deceased's parents were notified immediately and the body has since been sent to the Atua Government Hospital morgue.
