Twin Suicide Bombings kills 5 in Cameroon

Two female suicide bombers reportedly detonated their explosives in a town in north Cameroon, killing at least five people and injuring 12 others.

Colonel Jacob Kodji who leads Cameroon troops fighting against Ismalist extremists militia group Boko Haram is reported to have said that the two female suicide bombers targeted a family and a local shop in the town of Dabanga near Cameroon’s northern border with Nigeria.

Kodji said that the bombers were Nigerians who came to Camerron as refugees.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Cameroon is among other countries from the West African bloc that have contributed troops to battle Boko Haram. The other countries are Chad, Nigeria, and Niger.

Boko Haram’s six-year uprising has killed more than 20 000 people and displaced hundreds of thousands. It has been criticised by other extremist groups, including al-Qaeda, for indiscriminately killing fellow Muslims. In March, Boko Haram joined the Islamic State group.
