This article talks about some big Ghanaian music stars who made an impact and fled the music scene.
1. Nana King
He is a Ghanaian producer born in the U.S . He later moved to Ghana a started a record label called Ashanti International Records which launched the career of Batman, now Samini and produced his(Samini) debut album. Nana King produced most of the hit singles on radio back then. He produced big Hip-life stars such as Ex-Doe, Akyeame, VIP and Dassebre Gyamenah.
2. Ex-Doe
He was in the duo group with Chicago. They made the song 'Davi ma de kuku'. They however spit with Ex-Doe later releasing 'Maba' as a diss track to Chicago.
3. Chicago
Chicago might be the first hip-life artiste to rap in the Ewe language. He is also believed to be the brain behind the song 'Davi'.
4. 5five
These guys shook the country with a lot of hit singles like 'African Girl' and 'Move Back (Muje baya)'. The question is, 'are they coming back?'
5. Tic Tac
In case you didn't know, Tic Tac is a living legend in Hip-life. He has a lot of hit songs including 'Philomena', 'Fefe ne fe', 'Menka Bio(shordy)'. His third album Masem topped the Ghana Music Chart for 22 consecutive weeks in 2002-2003. He has performed alongside 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks and Buju Banton. Tic Tac made a huge impact in Ghana, Nigeria and other parts of the world. He's now an active member of Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).
6. Asem
Even though he hasn't been out of the system for that long but it's been a while since we heard from the 'Give Me Blow' man. Maybe Glo still got him stacking dough.
7. Keteke
"Keteke yen reba oo, Chio! Chioo!" when was the last time you heard that on your radio? These Takoradi boys are dearly missed.
8. F. B. S
They were talented musicians and dancers, but where did they go after releasing 'Oluman Boogie'.
9. Kunta Kinte
He's the younger brother of Okyeame Kwame and a founding member of the duo group Bradez which Stone as it's other member. He fell ill a couple of years ago and has now become inactive for a while. Life isn't that "Simple". We wish him a speedy recovery and hope he comes back soon.
10. T-Blaze
His first album was a banger with lots of hits like ' wo sisi ye wo ya', 'feeling no ye deep' and others. T-blaze moved to the UK and laid low for a while. He is currently working on his comeback. We wish him the best of luck.
11. K. K. Fosu
K.K Fosu was made his debut with Batman(Samini) and Kokoveli. He was doing well as a solo artiste but has suddenly disappeared.
12. Akatakyie
These brothers had a classic single titled 'Odo Asisime'. They came out with other singles before leaving the scene.
13. Okomfo Kwadee
Okomfo Kwaadee was a traditional storyteller. He is known as one of the best hip-life artiste Ghana has ever had. His style held both the young and old. He is also working on a comeback.
14. Yoggi Doggi
He made an impact in the game with his song 'Yentem ma yempie'. He also featured on Mad Fish's album which was a huge success. He left Ghana and has been silent since.
15. Kokoveli
He made his debut with Batman(Samini) and K.K. Fosu. He released his hit song 'Zaaza' and went MIA.
16. Mad Fish
He is a dancehall artiste. This should have been his era, where is he?
17. Praye Tintin
Big J and Choirmaster are still hanging around, Praye Tintin can't be found.
18. Nkasei
Their song 'Tuobodom' was a topic for discussion in Parliament. It was the number hit song in the country.
19. Shasha Marley
He's one of the best Reggae artiste Ghana can boast. He has achieved international fame and was recently endorsed by President Mahama. His last album was in 2007 titled Lost and Found which had the hit song 'Maata Family'. Will he release anymore songs?
20. Joe Fraizer
Joe Fraizer was hot back in the day. He released lots of songs, but his hit 'Shi Shii' shook crowds. His gestures on stage were exceptional.
21. Bra Kevin Beats
We were expecting him to be topping charts by now because seriously, he was a dope rapper. Bra Kevin was a member of Skillion records which had Jayso, Lil Shaker, E.L, Joey B and others as members. Where is the 'Three-Headed Beast'?
