President Mahama Shows Support For Stonebwoy And Ghanaian Movies

As part of International Youth Day's commemoration, President John Dramani Mahama, in an interview on GBC Radio Uniiq, advised Ghanaian artistes to put in more effort in their work and not to allow Nigerian musicians to take over their industry.

The President who has persevering love for Daddy Lumba's music, however said he enjoys music artistes such as Shasha Marley, VVIP, Gyedu Blay Ambolley and the now defunct group, Wutah. President Mahama complimented other young artistes for taking Ghanaian music to the international platform and mentioned Stonebwoy's 'Baafira' and 'Sheekena' as his favourite.

Nonetheless, he showed concerned about the influx of foreign music on Ghanaian radio stations and suggested a balance between local and foreign music. According to him, a bill is yet to be presented to parliament which will highlight the percentage of local and foreign music to be played on radio stations.

The president also praised Ghanaian movie makers for bringing out great movies. He lauded Shirley Frimpong-Manso for her great works. He also acknowledged Kumawood actors like Lil Win, Agya Koo and Emelia Brobbey.

He also acknowledged Kumawood movies, adding that he likes Lil Win, Agya Koo, and Emelia Brobbey. “I think they are getting there.” He said they were amateurish in the beginning, but they are doing great now.

President Mahama called on Ghanaians to be patient, “we are on track.” He gave an analogy that until a painter finishes his artwork, one will not know and appreciate what picture he is painting.
